Vastu Shastra is the science of organizing your home in such a fashion that it endorses health, prosperity and wealth of the residents and thwart negativity and ill-luck. The following are easy and efficient tips to secure the home along the principles of Vastu. This will promote the flow of positive energy in your house.
1. Foundation Ceremony – A “Bhoomi Pujan” ceremony is a recommended ceremony to be performed before construction as worshipping the land on which your home is going to be built is considered an auspicious sign. This can be considered the primary step into making your home Vastu-friendly.
2. Entrance – The entrance door to a home should idyllically be facing the East, as this will ensure the channelization of liveliness and positive energy into the household. While entrances on the North also usher goodness into homes, doors on the South are not advisable as they bring harmful energies of illness, misfortune and anger.
3. Kitchen Karma – Hence the kitchen paraphernalia should be placed accordingly. Since the kitchen is regarded as the energy-creator along Vastu principles, its location, direction, setup and colour-scheme are very important. The Kitchen should preferably be located in the South-East corner of the house and cooking should be done facing the East. A kitchen located in the North-East corner of the house is also acceptable. All other directions should be avoided. Also, it must not be located above a bathroom or Puja room. The door of the kitchen should be facing North, North-East or East. The window should be facing East to allow enough sunlight to enter. The colour-scheme for a kitchen in the South-East should be white or silver and for North-West should be yellow. Other vastu friendly colours are – pink, red, chocolate and orange. Blue should be avoided for kitchen or dining areas as it is an unstable influence. Kitchen floors should never be black either.
4. Living Room – It is important to ward off negative energy from the living room specially as it is not only used by the family but also guests – thus carrying energies from external sources as well. The hosts should be facing North or East while guests should be facing towards South or West while entertaining in the living room.
5. Bedroom – As a general rule, bedroom doors should open to 90 degrees or more. This allows optimum flow of positive energy inside. Mirrors should not face the bed on the North as this tends to reflect anxious thoughts to you. The bedroom should have ample open space and clutter-free as messy bedrooms invite negative vibes.
